Mimo Wlan
ok just to get something a little different going on i wanted to know what people know about MIMO...
all i know is that it is a whole lot faster than G WLANs (i think around 10x faster) and has been specifically designed to handle gaming over a WLAN better than previous WLAN systems... my dad has been thinking of getting a WLAN with a built in router for a while now but he doesnt want the G system now because MIMO/router systems are coming out early 2007. what do people think?? |

Yep, wireless has crap security, and is a total PITA to set up. WEP + WPA can be cracked in minutes, and MAC address filtering can be bypassed if someone has an adapter that can change it's MAC.
The higher speed versions have lower ranges, and speed drops off as you increase range, or if you're surrounded by lots of interference causing electronics (and you never get the stated speed anyway, as it's just marketing BS). It's only real use is for internet surfing, as it has been as fast as internet for a while, although ADSL and cable are catching up fast. It's still another way for people to spy on your surfing habits though (good thing about living in the sticks, less likely to get hacked by wireless). Gigabit is cheap, and makes wireless look stupid.
